Greetings! Welcome, Seth Speakers!!!

Welcome to our Intergalactic Seth Speakers Guild. We’re so glad that you want to join us!!!
Please also join our Facebook Group to get regular updates about the conference, and to help us promote by spreading the word via social media.

Digital Conference Stage

Since this will be all online, we’ll have several options for presenters. The basic structure is Zoom for our staging area, and from there a live feed goes to YouTube. If you go for the optional live Q&A after your pre-recorded presentation, we’ll have moderators receive questions via text messages from YouTube during your presentation and your Q&A period, and those questions will then be read to you so that you can answer them live over Zoom.

If you have a PowerPoint or slides, send us a PDF of this, and we can include it in your video. Conversely, if you have editing skills, feel free to add your slides to your presentation. We can create a ‘picture within picture’ effect to display your slides and your speaking video simultaneously on the same screen.

You can present your topic in two basic ways, including:

  • Pre-recorded presentation followed by live Q&A over Zoom
  • A pre-recorded presentation without Q&A
  • Perhaps you have another suggestion?

The basic idea is a one-hour presentation. That can be 45 min of presentation and 15 min of Q&A, or 1 hr presentation and no Q&A, or, whatever ratio you prefer. We can assist you in pre-recording your talk, just let us know!

Technical Requirements & Tips for Pre-Recorded Presentations

For the recording, most of us don’t realize that we have broadcast quality cameras in our pockets – our phones! Please set your phone, or whatever device you use, to record in 1080p (high definition) and 30fps (30 frames per second). This will ensure that we have the same video resolution and frame rate to work with throughout the conference, which is especially helpful for editing purposes.

I’m making this list as comprehensive as I can, so you don’t have to reinvent the wheel. Some recording basics include:

  • Make sure the recording is in horizontal mode (not portrait mode)
  • Use a tripod or set your recording device on a stable surface (you can get a basic phone tripod for about $20, which usually comes included if you get a $20 selfie light ring – see lighting below for more details)
  • Alternative recording devices you probably have your laptop, computer with video conferencing camera, iPad or tablet, etc… please contact us if you have questions on this or need help
  • Clean your camera lens before recording
  • Set your phone in airplane mode and do not disturb before recording (avoid the phone ringing and interrupting your presentation)
  • Turn off other ambient noise: refrigerator, heating vents, dishwasher, your neighbor’s lawnmower, your cat, dog, mouse, antigravitron, or any other device that makes ambient noise
  • Use a lovely but not too distracting background, simple backgrounds keep the focus on you and your presentation
  • Lighting (1) – use natural light if possible, and/or, if you can, incandescent/halogen light to avoid potential flicker issues in the film ( you can always do a quick test shoot to see how your lighting will interact with the camera. Only some LED lights will cause unwanted flicker in the film.)
  • Lighting (2) – another aspect of lighting is to keep it soft/diffuse to avoid casting harsh shadows. Bare bulbs will cast the harshest light, so if your lighting is diffuse and/or bouncing off a white surface before it hits you, you’ll get diffuse light and therefore diffuse shadows
  • Lighting (3) – make sure your face is lit. You can invest in a $20 selfie ring light that was made for lighting your face, which usually comes with a tripod for your phone
  • Do a test shoot or two before taking the time to do a full presentation, dial in your lighting, sound, and background – check to see if lighting, sound, and background are great before taking the time to record your full presentation. You don’t want to have to repeat everything because the sound, lighting, or background was inadequate or distracting
  • You can record in chunks. For example, you can record three 15 min chunks, and you or we can stitch them together later – if you do this, please keep your lighting and background the same for each chunk, and, please record a 5 to 10-sec smiling pause before and after you speak to give us enough video to stitch the chunks together
  • Your phone’s back camera is of better quality than the front. You can use a mirror to reflect your phone’s screen if you want to see “live” what you’re recording with the back camera
  • When done, back up your files in multiple locations, and upload it to us by contacting Jeff for upload instructions
  • When framing yourself in the video, apply the rule of 3rds (see pic below), using the top line as your eye level

This picture is just a guideline, the idea being that you want your entire head to be in the shot but you don’t want a lot of empty space above your head, and to generally take up a good part of the screen. Don’t be shy!

I hope that helps get you started.

Let me know if that is enough of a guideline, or if you have questions?

Panel Discussion

We’ll also engage in a live panel discussion at the end of the conference, so you are welcome to join that as well. The idea is to have all speakers zoom in and we’ll broadcast that session live, and in it we’ll discuss applying the Seth teachings to our daily lives. For Q&A portions, we’ll have a moderator read questions that come in from the audience of our live YouTube stream out loud for the panelists (you) to discuss.

Some possible ideas for topics include “The Individual and the Nature of Mass Events” type discussions, i.e., epidemics and other mass events from the Seth perspective. Should be a load of fun!

Recordings of Your Talk After the Conference

Unless we hear from you otherwise, we’ll post the entire conference, including your talk, to our conference YouTube channel to be freely available to the public. This will be either one long video or segments of the conference by day or speaker. We may also use portions of this conference to promote future conferences. We don’t have much of a video presence from our past conferences, and we endeavor to have a much better video archive this time around. Of course, we will link to all your websites and channels as this is as much about promoting you the speakers as it is our collective gatherings. That’s the general idea regarding video use after the conference, we will develop the details when we get there.

Important Dates & Deadlines

We’ll need your pre-recorded talk ASAP so that we can count you as in, as a for sure, done deal, no-holds-barred presenter, and, so that we can have time to work with and edit the video if needed.

The Conference is on the weekend of April 2nd and 3rd.

Biographical Info for our Website

This year, we want to include a brief video bio of all of our speakers, as well as the usual about info. It would be great if you could record us a brief video introducing yourself and your topic, as well as sending us the usual textual bio with links to any web sites, social media, or channels. This is a great opportunity for conference-goers to get to know you and your work, what you’re passionate about, and how they can find you. This can also be a personal testimonial about Seth and the Seth Material if you like.
